Home Information Packs

Home Information Packs (Hips) were introduced by the government in 2007 in a bid to improve the process of buying a property in England and Wales, but were suspended from May 2010.

The set of documents, which were also known as Seller's Packs, were meant to be produced and made available to buyers before a property was placed on the market for sale. This was a legal requirement and marketing your property without a Hip was not permissible.

Designed to eliminate surprises down the road, Hips contained key information on the properties being sold, such as its energy efficiency rating, and made it possible for buyers to see all the important things at the start of the process, free of charge.

Although Hips are no longer in existence, Energy Performance Certificates, which were among the compulsory documents in the packs, are still required.
