The Norwich & Peterborough building society were one of the first mortgage lenders to offer competitive green mortgage loans. Their green mortgage is fully portable and possible up to 90 per cent loan to value. N&P green mortgages come with free valuation and fixed or discounted rates. Furthermore, like other mortgages in their range, these loans come with payment holidays, underpayment options, and free legal fees.
Norwich & Peterborough green mortgage loans plant eight trees every year, for the first five years of your mortgage. These forty trees effectively render your house carbon neutral, meaning that the trees you have paid to plant absorb the emissions from your home. N&P work closely with the CarbonNeutral Company, who plant and maintain new forests. N&P create new forests in Lincolnshire and East Anglia to absorb the CO2 of their borrowers who have chosen a green loan.
Norwich & Peterborough operate under the slogan: “Norwich and Peterborough Green mortgage, we will do our bit to help the planet breathe.” A spokeswoman for N&P, Alison Rolls, reportedly commented: “Currently, very few people when asked to make the financial decision are prepared to commit to a higher cost – particularly where a mortgage is concerned. This position is made more difficult by the fact that the broker community competes to offer the lower cost deal to their client.”
